[Diluc isn't the only one who has a pounding heart, and while caffeine probably isn't going to help that, Chuuya knows he needs to be properly awake for this conversation. So he finishes getting dressed, sets about making a cup of coffee, and...

Once that part is done, he sits down while nursing his pour over. He feels a bit more levelheaded just having something to do with his hands, but every time he looks at the text he feels... giddy. Flustered. Nervous, definitely nervous.

Fucking hell, he wasn't the kind of guy to get nervous over this shit! But...]

First.

Just to be clear.

By date, you mean as in a romantic date? Like not just as friends?

[Listen he's never been on a romantic date, mafia life kind of made that complicated, not to mention his work schedule.]

[Okay, so, this is actually the first time he's asked somebody on a date like this. Even with Jean, he already knew that she was interested in him as more than a friend. When it comes to Chuuya, though, it was never entirely certain in his mind that the smaller man saw him that way. Carrying on as friends would have been fine, but it would be a matter of Diluc having to get a more secure hold on his emotions when it came to their more intimate interactions.

He reads the text over a few times when it comes back. Diluc finds himself quite glad that they are talking via message because he has a feeling Chuuya would be lacking all volume control right now.

A soft huff of amusement escapes him.]

I mean as a romantic date.
The kiss you on the doorstep at the end of the night sort of date.

If you like that kind of thing.

[Oh, Absolutely no volume control. His neighbors probably hate him for his lack of volume control, and that fall earlier probably didn't help.

Eh, nothing new there really. He's not even thinking about that right now, anyway.]

My job didn't leave a lot of chances for stuff like that back home.

Can I assume Kaeya is okay with this?

[He needs to be sure about that. Even an open relationship can have specific limits.]

If the answer to all that is a yes then.

And taking a swig of his coffee before it's cooled enough to drink.

He manages to keep from yelling and just punches his thigh as he hisses in pain, instead.]

There's a first time for everything. I think you'll be all right.

[Just follow his lead, etc, but even just from the text reactions he can tell he's thrown Chuuya for a loop. At least it wasn't too much to ask, but he thinks he's going to have to use a gentle hand with it regardless.]

And yes, Kaeya will be fine with it.
There's nothing to worry about.
We keep open lines of communication about things like this.

[He thinks he's going to be the one to take the lead, picking the time and place, but that's fine.]

If you need some time to get used to the idea, we don't have to rush anything.

[And okay, maybe it is a bit embarrassing. A little. But hearing all that is reassuring, to be honest. The last thing he wants is to mess... well, anything up for Diluc.

I don't know if you need time but you seemed quite shocked to be asked in the first place.

[It's endearing actually and he's glad that after those few minutes of worry this is actually going better than he expected.

He assumes Chuuya knows what a date implies even if he's never been on one.]

And he probably already realizes what that'll get out of Chuuya, carefully hidden panic aside.

Today? Well at least it's not a lot of time left to wonder if he's fucking this up.]

So is it dinner you want, or breakfast?

I am, but not at the cost of making you uncomfortable.

[Maybe he should tease a little less. He knows very well it's only winding the other man up.]

[That is so not the word he'd use here. But he can't deny having 24 hours to prepare gives him time to plan.]

There anything I should do beforehand? Where are we going? Should I dress up?

There's a new tempura restaurant near the main marketplace I've passed a few times. It looks good.

[Here we have Diluc Ragnvindr, not at all considering that tempura restaurants can be very expensive. He's intending for this to be his treat anyway.]

And you can dress up a little if you like. I don't mind what you wear.

And I want to look good for you if this is going to be our first date, obviously.

[A challenge perhaps, but he's actually curious about what Diluc will say.]

[This conversation just keeps getting more interesting. Diluc's earlier nerves have shifted over to something more mischievous and playful in their teasing back and forth.

He sips his coffee, thinking about his answer.]

I wouldn't mind seeing you in something of the local style. Do you have anything?

Oh? I have a decent amount, actually.

I happen to look very good in traditional wear.

I'll bet that you do.
I've grown quite fond of it myself in the time I've been here. They wear similar clothing in Inazuma but I was only passingly familiar with it.

Ane-san prefers traditional wear, it suits her style and her business. She made sure I knew what I was doing on that front. You make the best impressions in business meetings when you dress right for the moment, y'know?

['Ane-san' is a specific sort of Japanese phrasing, but given Nippon's magic, it'll come across as a very old fashioned way of saying 'older sister'.]

Absolutely. A business venture can be made or broken on first impressions.

[And Diluc would know what he's talking about on that front.]

But don't wear anything that's going to be too difficult to take off.

Meanwhile, Chuuya's letting out a laugh into the rim of his coffee cup at what Diluc follows with.]

Oh really now? I'll keep that particular desire in mind.

[Some would say Diluc is fairly confident about how the date would end, but considering how they aleady know they enjoy sex together... well. It seemed a fair assumption, to Chuuya.]

It's too hot out to sleep in much.

I agree. Though it's tending to be too hot for me to sleep much at night either.

I did almost sleep outside not long ago but Kaeya wouldn't let me.

Huh, why? It's not that bad sleeping outside in the summer if you find the right spot. Then again, not everyone can get on rooftops like I can.

I suppose it was more that he didn't want to sleep outside as well. We're too used to not sleeping alone by now.

[There's a pause then as he sips his coffee. Thinks. He rests the rim of the cup against his lower lip and idly scrolls back up to the top of the conversation, then back down again.

He can still feel his chest fluttering a little. Kaeya's going to laugh at him later.]

This isn't too much for you, is it?
I'm thrilled, but I don't want you to feel like you have to agree to what I'm asking.

[At least that makes two of them, in the flustered department. Chuuya's calmed a little, though the question draws a sigh from him. He takes a moment to take another sip of his own coffee, slowly typing.]

'New' is the more accurate word here. There's a lot about me I haven't told you, and I probably should at some point, but it's probably one of the reasons why I'm pretty shit at this stuff.

But I can say I really like you, Diluc. I like spending time with you, and I trust you. Hell, I feel comfortable with you to a degree some would call stupid back home, and that says plenty all it's own.

'New' doesn't mean that I don't want to see where this leads.
